Hi, Best wishes to Sinhala Language Wikipedians from Marathi Language mr-wikipedia. We do have one article on Marathi wikipedia about Shrilankan 'Anuradhapura Kingdom' with present title as mr:अनुराधापुर्याचे राज्य , presently style of its writing deonagari script is being debated at Marathi Wikipedia vilage pump at mr:विकिपीडिया:चावडी#अनुराधापुरा . The issue in debate is what is original sinhal pronounciation of word अनुराधापुरा ( AnuradhapurA) or अनुराधापूर (Anuradhapur) Which one is correct amongst these .
Reply from some one who has some knowledge of deonagari script will be appreciated .
Thanks and Regards
- अनुराधापूर (Anuradhapur) is wrong because in Sinhala it is not ending in a “r” but a “ra”(This is the short one not long “ra” or “raa”) . However “रा” transliterate to “raa” isn’t it? Then it’s also not correct. I don’t know how the end letter in a word is handled in your script. So I’m not sure how to write the word properly. In Hindi they have written it as अनुराधपुर'. Does this answer your question? --Lee (talk) 08:30, 5 ඔක්තෝබර් 2010 (යූටීසී)
- Hi,Thanks for reply, “रा” transliterate to “raa” is correct. ;in Sinhala it is not ending in a “r” but a “ra” , probably you are trying to say that last “r” is not pronounced without vowel 'a' (as in first A of Anuradhapur) but when you say “ra” short one means pronouncing r that includes effect of vowel 'a' (as in first A of Anuradhapur)
- As far as Hindi Wikipedia does not bother much about correctness of foreign pronunciations in fact their options are limited, where as Marathi people are on extreme opposite side that we are too fussy that we write spellings correctly,
- Thanks lot for your help
- BTW, is "धा" is correct in अनुराधापूर? That is also a long "aa" right? It should be "Dha" not "Dhaa". --Lee (talk) 14:52, 8 ඔක්තෝබර් 2010 (යූටීසී)
