About deleting articles
සංස්කරණයI see that almost all the stub pages are requested to be deleted. I don’t think that’s the way we should handle it; isn’t it? Since now we have a community here can we arrange on a good deletion policy. All those experienced guys why don’t you add your ideas there. --Lee 13:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- In my opinion, stub pages like this
- ඉලෙක්ට්රොනික විද්යාව, ක්ෂුද්රපාලකය, අනුරාධපුරය, and even රෙජිස්ට්රාර් ජනරාල්, which has a useful external link
- we definetly should keep, because they contain even a minimum of useful text. But some pages like these
- Have absolutely no content in them. I personally it diminishes the overall quality of the encyclopeida when we have pretty decent articles (like the ones on DYK), and then articles like these which serve no real purpose. What do you think?
- Apart from that, I completely agree Lee that we can't just be pasting {{delete}} on all the pages we want deleted. I'm not entirely convinced of the need for an AFD system here yet since there really aren't enough users to vote on such discussions. But I think we definetly need to start a system like the speedy delete system where different deletion reasons (spam, nonsense page, non notable biography etc) have different tags to be added. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 22:02, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- One thing I readily agree on deleting is article with English titles (Especially when the content cannot be called a Sinhala wiki article). However when it come to empty stubs with Sinhala title and all, it’s kind of a hard decision to push delete button on them. I guess I’m a bit emotional here. We didn’t have any contributors for a long time and I started to value any and all contributions. :-) --Lee 13:19, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- We should have policies here. As I think we do not have any policies right now but we can start our goal for the policies by starting a Deletion Policy first. Guys, since we do not have much large number of articles seems there is no need to go for the en wiki's Wikipedia:Deletion policy. I think translating the en's Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion will be enough for us. What do you think? --♪♫ ලහිරු ♫♪ කථාබහ | එන්න මගේ අඩිපාරේ 15:46, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right we don't need a huge thing like the one at English wiki. Also we don't need to translate whatever given in the English wiki to Sinhala since we can't follow it to the letter, due to the fact we don't have "that" type of articles here. However we should have some sort of a guideline so that any admin here can refer when deleting pages. Otherwise if we start deleting all the pages that *we* think is not encyclopedia like, that would discourage others from adding things. C'mon guys check our own edits we are not adding much of useful contents; we are simply maintaining the site. --Lee 15:35, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
