Usage

This template is a navbox, and may be transcluded to the bottom of an article. However, this navbox is considered secondary to {{martial arts}}, and this navbox should only be used in articles of broad scope where origin is particularly relevant, such as Japanese martial arts and Chinese martial arts, as well as main pages such as Martial arts and Portal:Martial arts.

Guidelines for adding articles

When adding a martial art to this template, please follow these guidelines:

1. The primary purpose of this template is for navigation, not to be an exhaustive list of all martial arts ever invented. Therefore, do not add arts for which there is no article, or articles which are only stubs or Start-class. C-class and above only, please.
2. This template is for listing "arts", rather than "schools". For example, Karate is listed, but "Shotokan" is not.
3. For purposes of this template, a martial art's country of origin is the country in which it was first formally taught, irrespective of the birthplace, ethnicity, or citizenship of its founder.
4. For martial arts founded in countries that no longer exist (e.g., the USSR or Ryūkyū Kingdom), list the art under the name of the country that existed at the time the art was founded, with no regard to the current country.
5. For martial arts founded in places that have shifted from the possession of one country to another, list the art under the country in possession of that place at the time the art originated.
6. Place a martial art into the "Unknown or no single origin" category only as a last resort, but be fair before crediting a particular place as the sole origin of a martial art.
