ලාඕසයේ ඉතිහාසය 14 සිට 18 වැනි ශතවර්ෂය දක්වා පැවති ලන් සං රාජධානිය තෙක් දිවෙයි. එතෙක් රාජ්‍ය තුනක් ලෙස පැවති මෙම රාජධානිය 1893 දී [[ප්‍රංශ අධිරාජ්‍යය|ප්‍රංශ යටත්විජිතයක්]] ලෙස ලාඕසය නමින් එක් රටක් බවට පත් විය. 1945 දී ජපාන ආක්‍රමණයකින් පසුව තාවකාලිකව නිදහස ලබා ගත්තත්, නැවත ප්‍රංශ ග්‍රහණයට නතු වුණු ලාඕසය ස්වතන්ත්‍ර රජයක් බවට පත් වූයේ 1949 දීය. 1953 දී ලාඕසය සිසවං වොං යටතේ ව්‍යවස්ථාදායක රාජාණ්ඩුවක් ලෙසින් නිදහස ලබා ගත්තේය. වසර කිහිපයකට පසු පැවැති [[ලාඕස සිවිල් යුද්ධය|සිවිල් යුද්ධයකින්]] රාජාණ්ඩුව පහකෙරුණු අතර පැතෙට් ලාඕ නමැති කොමියුනිස්ට් කණ්ඩායම 1975 දී බලය පැමිණෙන ලදී.
