ඉරාකයේ නිල නාමය 'ඉරාක ජනරජය' යන්නය. ඉරාකට 'සක්රොස්' (Zaqros) කඳු පෙලෙහි වයඹ දිග කෙළවරෙහි වැඩි ප්‍රදේශයක් පුරා විහිදී පවත්නා බටහිර ආසියාවට ද, සිරියානු කාන්තාරයේ නැගෙනහිරකොටසට ද අරාබියානු කාන්තාරයේ උතුරැ දිග කොටසට ද විහිද පවත්නා රටක් වෙයි.

2004 ජුනි මස ඉරාකයේ ස්වෛරීත්වය අතුරැ ආණ්ඩුවකට මාරැ කරන ලදි. අනතුරැව ජනමත විචාරණයක් හරහා නව ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්තාවක් සම්මත කරගන්නා ලද අතර, මැතිවරණයෙන් නව රජයක් තෝරා පත්කර ගන්නා ලදි. 2010 මාර්තු වන විට රටතුළ රැදී සිටි ඇමෙරිකන් භට සංඛ්‍යාව 96,000 කිත අමෙරිකන් හමුදා සේනාංක සම්පූර්ණයෙන් ඉවත් කර ගැනීමේ අවසාන දිනයක් නියම කර තිබේ. එය නම් 2011 දෙසැම්බර් 31 වන දිනය.
