1973 දී [[Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle]] හි "Curator of Insecta and Vermes" තනතුරට පත් කරනු ලැබූ ජාන් බැප්ටිස්ට් ලැමාර්ක් විසින් මෙම ජීවින් විස්තර කිරීමට "අපෘෂ්ඨවන්ශීන්" යන යෙදුම ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී. තවදුරටත් ඔහු විසින් මූලික වශයෙන් බෙදා තිබූ කාණ්ඩ දෙක , කාණ්ඩ දහයක් දක්වා බෙදන ලදී. එනම් ලිනේයස්ගේ ඉන්සෙක්ටා කාණ්ඩයෙන් ඇරැක්නීඩා හා ක්‍රස්ටේශියා ද ලිනේයස්ගේ vermes කාණ්ඩයෙන් මොලුස්කා, ඇනෙලිඩා, [[Barnacle|Cirripedia]], රේඩියාටා, සීලන්ට්‍රේටා හා [[Infusoria]] ද විභේදනය කරන ලදී. වර්තමානයේදී මොවුන් මුහුදු ස්පොන්ජින්, පැතලි පණුවන් වැනි සරල ජීවින්ගේ සිට ආත්‍රෝපෝඩා, මොලුස්කා වැනි සංකීර්ණ ජීවින් දක්වා වංශ 30 කර අධික සන්ක්යාවකට වර්ගීකරණය කර ඇත.
